I’ve been dragging my feet, no more like lazy, in my approach to the marketing of Jasmine. I’m so proud of her and its is sometimes difficult to understand why there are so few sales on the net. My dream was that once a few read her and enjoyed the story, that they would tell others, who would tell others, etc and while it is expected that sales will be slow at the start, they would build exponentially as more readers became familiar with Jasmine.
That does not seem to be the case. As I research on the web, exactly how to be a publisher, after all I’ve climbed the mountain and am now an author, everyone everywhere is telling me the key is getting your name out there via, blogs, interviews, social networking, and more.
Well, Jasmine is a wonderful story and deserved my atttention. I’ve embraced facebook and have been offering free copies of Jasmine to the Romance Novel book clubs in exchange for a review of the story. Emails from readers confirm to me that she is a wonderful read, but so far getting independant review has proven to be a challenge.
I’ve gotten my first request for an autograph, had my first book signing, have accepted an appointment for my first interview, now I just need that first review.
Those of you out there who want to be authors, I say just start writing. Until you put something on paper you have no chance to be an author. I encourage everyone to try it. It is the most fun and rewarding thing you can do when one day you step back, look at that pile of paper, and realize you’ve done it. You’ve written a book. It’s not difficult, just time consuming. Hopefully a labor of love.
The next step is to share your creation with the world. So far that is almost as much of a challenge as writing the book, and uses an entirely different skill set.
I’ll keep you informed as to how it goes.
